Infowave launches downloadable wireless e-mail service

LAS VEGAS—Infowave Software launched a new enterprise product that bypasses the corporate information-technology department and puts wireless deployment decisions in the hands of individual employees.

The company’s new software, Symmetry Pro, allows Palm and Pocket PC users to download a wireless corporate e-mail service and install it themselves. Using the service, customers will have wireless access to corporate e-mail, calendar and personal information management functions. Infowave said the service works on virtually any carrier network and on any Palm- or Pocket PC-powered device.

“Infowave is excited to deliver an innovative new service that brings to market what has been missing from wireless data until today—useful, easy, try-before-you-buy solutions that can be self-installed on the latest new devices,” said Thomas Koll, the company’s chief executive officer.

Infowave said the Symmetry Pro service includes a free evaluation prior to a monthly charge.
