LONDON—Vodafone Group plc said it began global payment trials in the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy. The trials are intended to test the global carrier’s payment platform.
Full commercial service, which allows customers to make purchases with mobile devices, for the three countries will begin later this year, with additional Vodafone countries following.
Payment on the trial system will be made with traditional credit cards, debit cards and electronic direct debit. Vodafone customers will be identified by their mobile devices and can confirm purchases with a personal identification number (PIN).
