Carriers achieve GSM-CDMA international roaming

LONDON—The GSM Association announced GSM-CDMA inter-standard international roaming has been achieved between its Global Roaming Forum, Korean CDMA operator KTF and French GSM 1800 MHz network operator Bouygues Telecom.

This launch allows KTF to offer roaming services to GSM subscribers from networks that have signed a roaming agreement with KTF, like Bouygues Telecom.

“It is gratifying for the GSM Association that the Global Roaming Forum was the catalyst for this wireless industry first,” said Rob Conway, chief executive officer (CEO) of the GSM Association. “We welcome this positive development—it’s good news for our members, their consumers and for the industry at large.”
