Strategy Analytics predicts Sony Ericsson will take No.3 spot in global cellular market

BOSTON—According to a new report from Strategy Analytics, Samsung will fall below Siemens in 2002 global cellular market share results, and Sony Ericsson may push Samsung down even further.

Analysts from Strategy Analytics’ Global Wireless Practice believe Nokia will lead market share in 2002, with Siemens retaining second place and Samsung challenging Sony Ericsson for the third place position. Motorola, they said, will only post modest market share gains.

“Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications (SEMC) will emerge as the number three vendor in 2002 with 7.9 percent market share, but it will struggle to redefine its global portfolio and harmonize the dramatically different cultures of the two merged entities,” said Chris Ambrosio, senior analyst from Strategy Analytics. “Ericsson has solid mid to mid-high range product, but we remain unconvinced about offerings for the volume end of their business.”
