CANNES, France—Nortel Networks made two announcements at this week’s 3GSM World Congress in France.
The company commercially launched its Network Gateway Server (NGS), which it said simplifies the development of data applications so they can be launched faster at minimal costs. Nortel said the product is now shipping globally and announced OniWay as its first public NGS customer.
Nortel also announced it joined Samsung Electronics and PrairieComm in completing a UMTS 3GPP packet data call on a form-factor handset, the most recent UMTS accomplishment made by the three companies since they formed an alliance in 2001.
