Shenandoah adds 26,000 users in 2001

EDINBURG, Va.—Shenandoah Telecommunications Co. said it added 26,000 wireless customers last year, more than doubling its customer base to 49,000 subscribers.

Company revenues increased more than $25 million from 2000 to $54 million last year, with revenues from its personal communications services operations posting $34 million in revenue and its cellular operations adding $20 million. Shenandoah also reported receiving $1.7 million from outside parties for lease of space on its wireless towers last year.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for the fourth quarter of last year were $400,000, a slight decrease from the $500,000 the previous quarter, which the company blames on increased sales and marketing activities in the end-of-year buying season. Net losses for its PCS operations also increased from $4.3 million in 2000 to $5.5 million last year.
