HONG KONG—Indian company Lifetree Convergence Ltd. said it supplied its billing and operations system for Shell, which launched a mobile virtual network operator service in Hong Kong in February. The joint venture between mobile operator Sunday Communications Ltd. and Shell Hong Kong Ltd. will introduce an MVNO service targeted at Hong Kong motorists.
Hong Kong is one of the most competitive mobile markets in the world with six operators vying for the country’s 7 million subscribers and a mobile penetration rate of more than 80 percent. The Shell service will be the country’s first MVNO offering.
“Sunday is interested in tying up with world class brands who will introduce MVNOs on our existing and future 3G (third-generation) networks,” said Bruce Hicks, group managing director of Sunday. “This will increase our ability to compete in the Hong Kong market.”
Lifetree said its @Billity software will allow Shell Mobile Hong Kong to roll out new marketing strategies through its billing capability and multipackage support.
