NEW DELHI, India—RPG Cellular Services, operating in the Chennai circle, plans to invest 500 million rupees (US$10.3 million) by June this year to expand network capacity.
The expansion will see an increase in the number of switches and base stations to meet additional traffic requirements. The number of base stations would increase from 100 to 150. A portion of funds will be raised as term loans from Indian financial institutions ICICI and IL&FS.
The company is now getting ready for increased competition from the impending entry of two new players—BSNL and Hutchison Max—later this year. Speaking to newsmen in Chennai, D R Mehta, managing director of RPG Cellular, said the company had tied up with Tata-VSNL for international roaming and with Bharti for national long distance.
