Sony Pictures forms Wireless Services group

CULVER CITY, California, United States—Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment formed Wireless Services, a new group that will focus on developing and distributing new mobile-specific entertainment applications, games and services featuring Sony Pictures Entertainment properties.

Wireless Services also will work with Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment Europe to penetrate the international marketplace, as well as Sony Online Entertainment.

Wireless Services recently introduced “Charlie’s Angels Mobile Adventure” and “Men In Black 2: Alien Control” for Sony Ericsson’s Java-enabled Z700 mobile phone, which will be available in Europe and Asia.

Tim Chambers, senior vice president of SPDE’s advanced platforms, will lead Wireless Services. Rio Caraeff, former co-founder of Fabric, a consultant firm, joins Wireless Services as vice president.
