CTIA show wraps up with Gorbachev

ORLANDO, Florida, United States—The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) wrapped up U.S. mobile industry event CTIA Wireless 2002 on Wednesday with a final keynote address by Mikhail Gorbachev, former leader of the Soviet Union.

Gorbachev encouraged companies to work with Russian companies, scientists and engineers, describing the Russian wireless market as small but with enormous growth potential.

“Today we have 8 million wireless users, but by the end of the year we will have over 14 million,” he said. “We have ideas on how to bring Russian companies to CTIA, and we hope the next convention will be attended by Russian companies.”
