REDMOND, Washington, United States—The second- and third-largest U.S. wireless operators are in talks to merge their operations according to a report from Bloomberg. While neither AT&T Wireless nor Cingular Wireless would comment on the rumor, the Bloomberg report said the companies are in preliminary talks and a transaction is not imminent.
AT&T Wireless and Cingular Wireless, both former TDMA carriers migrating their networks to GSM technology, announced a joint venture earlier this year to build out approximately 3,000 miles of rural interstates.
