Symbol lowers 2002 expectations, 1Q revenues down

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y.—Wireless and mobile computer maker Symbol Technologies Inc. reported lower revenues compared with the same quarter last year, and it lowered its expectations for full-year revenues.

Symbol earned $301 million for the first quarter, compared with $450 million in the same quarter last year. The company revised its full-year revenue expectations from $1.4 billion to $1.3 billion.

Company executives blamed the lowered outlook on sluggish corporate spending.
