NEW DELHI, India—Hutchison Essar, a GSM service provider in New Delhi, has introduced reduced off-peak charges on prepaid cards. Airtime charges will be reduced to half for both incoming and outgoing calls between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. While incoming calls will cost 0.8 rupee (US$0.02) per minute, and outgoing calls will cost 1.34 rupees (US$0.27) per minute.
Hutchison Essar is a joint venture of Hutchison Telecom of Hong Kong and India’s Essar group. The company had 390,640 subscribers in Delhi at the end of March 2002.
