JOHANNESBURG, South Africa—South Africa’s third mobile network operator Cell C has announced that the company has nearly doubled the number of subscribers it originally forecast for the first five months of operation.
The operator’s original forecast was to have 250,000 subscribers during this period. The operator now has roughly 450,000. The network regards the churn of customers from the rival networks of Vodacom and MTN as being crucial to this continued growth.
Corporate communications executive Zeona Motshabi said the operator anticipates 800,000 subscribers by the end of 2002, although given the recent success, this figure could be revised upward.
