OVERLAND PARK, Kan.—Sprint PCS signed a letter of intent with eOne Global, an affiliate of electronic payment provider First Data Corp., to establish a mobile payment network enabling customers to make purchases and payments with their wireless devices.
A similar plan was recently announced by European wireless operators to launch an interoperable mobile payments platform using eOne Global’s infrastructure.
“Sprint applauds the efforts of eOne Global to launch an interoperable payments platform in Europe,” said Charles Levine, president of Sprint PCS. “We are pleased to be working with eOne Global and First Data on launching the first interoperable mobile payment network in the U.S. and are committed to making it a success.”
