Verizon, Microsoft ally for wireless data offerings

BEDMINSTER, N.J.—Verizon Wireless and Microsoft Corp. announced a strategic alliance to deliver co-developed and jointly marketed wireless data services featuring MSN services and content, Windows Powered devices and enterprise solutions.

The “VZW with MSN” service will be the default service for new digital Verizon Wireless Web customers and is expected to provide access to MSN services from any Web-enabled Verizon Wireless digital phone, including the MSN Messenger instant messaging service, MSN Hotmail Web-based e-mail service, Microsoft .NET alerts and MSN information services.

The service is scheduled to launch Friday with what Verizon Wireless called a multimillion dollar joint marketing and branding campaign.
