Lucent equips 25,000 cdma2000 base stations worldwide

MURRAY HILL, N.J.—Lucent Technologies said it has equipped more than 25,000 base stations worldwide to support third-generation cdma2000 technology.

“This significant milestone underscores our ability to rapidly deploy 3G cdma2000 networks and equipment worldwide and further reinforces our leadership in spread spectrum 3G technology,” said Jim Brewington, president of Lucent’s Mobility Solutions Group. “Our high-capacity voice and high-speed data solutions will allow our customers to compete more effectively and profitably, while paving the way for them to offer high-speed data services to enterprise customers—a market with pent-up demand for these services.”

To take advantage of the advanced 3G capabilities, Lucent CDMA customers just add channel cards and make software upgrades to existing Lucent base stations.
