HELSINKI, Finland—Finland’s Sonera Corp. and Hong Kong CSL Ltd. launched the world’s first commercial inter-operator multimedia messaging services over Aicent Inc.’s and Sonera’s GPRS Roaming Exchange networks.
The service allows mobile users in Hong Kong and Finland to send MMS messages to each other and access their home MMS services while visiting each other’s networls.
Sonera launched its MMS service this week; CSL launched MMS in March. The two operators also previously worked together to demonstrate GPRS roaming between Europe and Asia.
“The successful MMS inter-connectivity over GRX between CSL and Sonera is an important step in migrating toward next-generation GRX services that promise to deliver even more value to mobile operators,” said David Zhang, chief technology officer and vice president of engineering of Aicent.
