DoCoMo releases PDA unit, discusses alliance with KTF

TOKYO-NTT DoCoMo Inc. said it will begin marketing a next-generation FOMA-compatible two-part terminal made up of a personal digital assistant base unit with a Bluetooth wireless handset.

The base unit will feature a 3.5-inch color screen and a built-in camera, enabling 64 kilobits per second real-time video conferencing, while the wireless handset will be used for voice communications, for checking e-mail or as a remote control when playing downloaded music on the PDA.

The device will be available beginning July 16.

DoCoMo is also reported to be in talks with South Korean wireless operator KTF Co. to form a strategic alliance and possibly to acquire a stake in KTF. DoCoMo was in talks last year with KTF rival SK Telecom for a similar alliance before differences arose over the amount of investment.
