REDMOND, Wash.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. and Microsoft Corp. said they will develop and distribute end-to-end solutions for Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PCs, smartphones and laptops designed to provide wireless access to e-mail, information and applications behind corporate firewalls.
In addition, AT&T Wireless plans to be the first carrier to offer enterprise-grade Microsoft .NET location-based services for mobile users through MapPoint .NET mapping and locations services and the .NET Compact Framework.
Both companies said they have been working together for several months and are currently in the late stages of product development with a number of customer trials already under way. Commercial products are expected to launch during the fourth quarter.
