NEW YORK-Canesta Inc recently made commercially available its Projection Keyboard original equipment manufacturer development toolkit to permit mobile device manufacturers to customize projection keyboard layout using the San Jose, Calif. company’s chips.
“This will permit such products as smart phones, PDAs, tablet PCs or cell phones to come equipped with a full-sized standard or custom keyboard that is created ‘out of thin air’ by projecting beams of light that paint the OEM-designed keyboard onto a nearby surface,” Canesta said.
“The user’s finger movements are sensed by Canesta’s revolutionary electronic perception technology, embedded in a tiny sensor chip that the OEM implants in the product.”
Founded in April 1999, Canesta is a venture-backed company that has received about $20 million in private equity funding from Carlyle Venture Partners, Apax Partners, JP Morgan Partners, TechFund Capital and Thales Corporate Ventures. The company has been granted at least 30 patents to date.
