Sony Ericsson, Chapman to develop in-vehicle platform

LONDON-Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications and Boca Raton, Fla.-based Chapman Technologies signed a $142 million agreement to develop an in-vehicle services platform.

The platform will be based on Sony Ericsson’s CDMA 1xRTT module and Chapman’s Vehicle Locator digital application. It will include phone service, global positioning system functionality and security. Chapman Command Center will provide subscribers with 911-trained emergency response personnel, monitoring, roadside assistance and location-based concierge services.

The companies said the platform will be commercially available for original equipment manufacturers by late this year.
