CARY, N.C.-SpectraSite Holdings Inc. said it is considering the sale of its network services division, which has 30 offices, more than 1,000 employees, and offers a range of site construction, management and antenna installation services to wireless carriers.
“This market has been consolidating over the last few years as the major wireless carriers and their affiliates have increasingly turned to national service providers for all of their construction, installation and network deployment needs,” said Steve Clark, chief executive officer of SpectraSite. “In many cases they are hiring one project manager who then subcontracts the work out to firms such as SpectraSite. Based on this trend, we have decided that it is no longer imperative to offer network services as a complementary product offering to our core business, which is leasing space on towers.”
SpectraSite retained Lazard Freres to assist in its search for a buyer.
The company will announce its second-quarter earnings Aug. 13.
