Alamosa revenues increase, net loss drops

LUBBOCK, Texas-Sprint PCS affiliate Alamosa Holdings Inc. reported an increase in total revenues from $83.5 million during the second quarter last year to $130.8 million this year. Net losses for the quarter dropped to $28.7 million for the second quarter of this year, a loss of 31 cents per share, compared with a loss of $34.3 million reported for the same quarter last year, a loss of 37 cents per share.

Alamosa posted its second consecutive quarter of positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $6.4 million.

For the quarter, Alamosa said it added 20,000 net customers, well below the 54,000 customers it added during the second quarter last year. Alamosa ended the quarter with 571,000 total customers.

Average revenue per user also fell from $62 last year to $59 this year with customer churn increasing from 2.4 percent to 3.2 percent. The carrier said it expects ARPU to remain stable for the rest of the year, while it expects churn for the last half of the year to trend higher.
