SANTA CLARA, Calif.-Herschel Technologies said Aug. 14 it has joined other telecommunications industry participants in the “OSS through Java Initiative,” which is engaged in guiding development of the business-critical Inventory Application Program Interface. The IAPI defines J2EE- and XML-based interfaces between inventory repositories and other operations support systems.
Launched in response to requests by telecommunications services providers, the initiative is a working group charged with defining and implementing application programming interfaces based on Java that support operations support systems that are comprehensive and quick to implement. These can be downloaded for free from the OSS through Java Web site at http://java.sun.com/products/oss.
Herschel, a Web systems integration and consulting provider, joins at least 13 other companies participating in the Initiative: BEA, Borland, Digital Fairway, L.M. Ericsson, eXcelon, MetaSolv, Motorola Inc., NEC, Nokia Corp., Nortel Networks, PrismTech, PwC Consulting and Telecordia.
