Sharp unveils Zaurus for Verizon CDPD network

SAN DIEGO-Sharp Electronics Corp. unveiled a consumer edition wireless data service for its Zaurus SL-5500 personal digital assistant designed to run on Verizon Wireless Inc.’s CDPD network. The Microsoft Pocket PC powered device includes a color screen, integrated QWERTY keyboard and dual expansion slots for Compact Flash and Secure Digital media.

In addition the device includes an end-to-end wireless e-mail solution, which was developed through a partnership with Aether Systems Inc., that includes modem ordering and fulfillment, network service, billing, customer service and support. Sharp said the wireless Web browsing experience on the device is faster and more efficient than on current data networks due to the wireless optimization and data compression benefits of Aether’s Fusion platform.
