Filipinos prefer logos, icons for mobile apps

MANILA, The Philippines-Logos and icons are the most popular mobile applications that are being downloaded by Filipino mobile-phone users, while the Nokia 3310 model is the hottest handheld unit, according to a survey conducted by the electronic commerce research site DigitalFilipino.com.

The survey had 528 respondents, with 91 percent, or 483, owning mobile phones. Respondents are mainly from Metropolitan Manila, Bicol (Bicol Region), Cebu and Davao City.

Some 71 percent of the survey’s respondents are frequent users of mobile applications, such as logos, icons and picture messages, among others.

The survey, covering the months from February to July, found the most popular mobile applications are logos and icons, as 20 percent of the respondents have downloaded these, while 15 percent have downloaded ring tones and 14 percent picture messages, 6 percent have accessed news, 6 percent have read horoscopes, and 5 percent have accessed quotes and jokes.

The other applications, involving games, banking, celebrity news, location finder, gig schedules, foreign exchange, chat, recipes and e-mail, were accessed by a small percentage of respondents.
