NEW YORK-With the possibility of being released from its obligations to the Federal Communications Commission’s Auction 35 fiasco, Verizon Wireless Inc. is reported to be interested in purchasing Cablevision Systems Corp.’s Northcoast PCS wireless division, according to the New York Post.
The report said talks between the two companies were still in the preliminary phase and that Cablesvision’s wireless assets, which include a number of operational CDMA networks and C-, D-, E- and F-block licenses in large markets including New York, Boston and Minneapolis, could be worth about $1 billion.
Investment bankers also said in the report that AT&T Wireless Services Inc. and Cingular Wireless L.L.C. may also be interested in buying Cablevision’s wireless assets.
