ComScape launches Kiwi PCS service

WILMINGTON, N.C.-ComScape Telecommunications Inc., which owns a number of C-block and F-block spectrum licenses, launched its Kiwi PCS service in Wilmington, N.C., offering customers flat-rate unlimited local calling for $35 per month with no contracts or deposits. Customers also can add voice mail, caller identification and call waiting for an additional $3 per month and its Zoom Messaging unlimited text messaging service for $5 per month.

“This is a great day for our company and a great day for the people of Wilmington,” said Ghanshyam Patel, president of ComScape. “For the first time since mobile phones have been offered in Wilmington, a truly affordable cellular service is available to everyone that needs a phone.”

ComScape is using an Ericsson Inc. supplied cdma 2000 1x-based network and currently offers Kyocera’s 1135 handset. The company said it plans to expand its Wilmington coverage to Raleigh-Durham, Jacksonville, New Bern and Morehead City areas of North Carolina, and will launch additional Kiwi PCS markets in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky.
