THE HAAG, The Netherlands-KPN Telecom released its quarterly results on Friday, reporting its net debt decreased to about $14 billion at the end of the third quarter from about $22.5 billion in the third quarter last year. It also reported its first quarterly profit in two years.
KPN Mobile said it had 142,5000 total i-mode customers in Germany and the Netherlands at end-September. Its Belgium subsidiary launched i-mode in October. The mobile data service is highly successful in Japan, and NTT DoCoMo Inc., which owns 15 percent of KPN Mobile, helped the operator launch the service across its European subsidiaries earlier this year.
At the end of the quarter, KPN had more than 5 million subscribers in the Netherlands and more than 7 million in Germany, with monthly average revenue per user for postpaid and prepaid customers increasing slightly in both markets compared with monthly ARPUs in the third quarter of 2001.
