Boeing, C&W plan broadband connectivity for airline travelers

SAN FRANCISCO-Connexion by Boeing and Cable & Wireless have joined to introduce broadband connectivity to international airline travelers starting in 2003.

Lufthansa and British Airways will offer 3-month service trials to trans-Atlantic travelers in the first quarter 2003. Japan Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines Systems have also announced plans to offer broadband service to customers.

“We believe the added flexibility and convenience offered by in-flight connectivity will not only result in increased productivity for business travelers and additional choices for leisure passengers, but may also prove to be a competitive marketing advantage and cost-saving for the commercial airlines offering the services,” said Robert Dietterle, Connexion by Boeing’s chief technology officer.
