JOHANNESBURG, South Africa-Nigerian state-owned network operator Nitel announced that all the country’s state capitals will be connected to the operator’s GSM network during 2003.
Sam Nmegbu, Nitel’s territorial manager, said work has already begun on the rollout, and coverage will also be extended to major cities in each region.
Nmegbu added that the program will be completed sometime in the coming year and the digitization of the high traffic exchanges will be carried out at the same time to accommodate the additional network traffic.
On the issue of privatization, Nmegbu said the employees are concerned about their future in the privatized entity, but as professionals they will easily be able to fit into the new company.
