Telenor to shut down NMT network in 2004

FOREBU, Norway-Telenor Mobile said it will end its NMT 450 MHz service at the end of 2004. The company’s NMT 450 MHz license expires 31 December, 2004, and it will likely not apply for an extension.

The company said it has alternatives for its NMT 450 MHz customers, including its GSM network and a satellite telephony roaming service. At the end of the third quarter, Telenor had 57,000 NMT customers and a total customer base in Norway of 2.4 million.
