New York city council approves ban on cell phone use at public performances

NEW YORK-By a vote of 40-9, the city council of New York has approved a bill to prohibit the use of cell phones at public performances, including theaters, museums and concert halls.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he would veto the ban, which does not apply to basketball arenas, baseball stadiums or other sports venues. However, the city council has enough votes to override the mayor’s veto.
