HELSINKI, Finland-Network upgrades continue the world over, as carriers in the United States, Taiwan and Denmark announce plans to upgrade to faster wireless technologies.
In Taiwan, Taiwan Cellular Corp. said it will use equipment from Nokia Corp. to begin building a W-CDMA network starting early next year. Nokia said the deal will help it reach its goal of expanding its share of the W-CDMA market to 35 percent. Nokia has been working with TCC since early last year, and supplied the operator’s GPRS network.
Nokia also announced it will provide a GSM/EDGE-capable network for Cellular One of Northeast Arizona. The network will cover much of the rural areas in Northeast Arizona and Western New Mexico.
Finally, Ericsson will be the primary supplier of Danish operator TDC Mobil’s W-CDMA network. Deliveries will begin in January 2003.
