Samsung handsets to integrate Agere GPRS chips

ALLENTOWN, Pa.-Agere Systems announced it will supply Samsung with wireless data chipsets and software for use in the company’s new generation of advanced mobile phones.

The agreement, worth more than $150 million over 12 months, calls for Agere to incorporate its GPRS chipset and software solution into Samsung’s phones.

“The combination of Agere’s system-level expertise with Samsung’s leadership in handset design, display technology and multi-function integration has produced the most versatile mobile phones available for consumers today,” said Cho Byung-Duck, senior vice president of Samsung Electronics.
