RIM, Handspring may work together

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.-According to the Toronto Star newspaper, Handspring president Ed Colligan said yesterday that it is logical that his company will use e-mail software developed by RIM with its Treo and other devices.

The two companies have been involved in a rivalry for some time including litigation.

In November Research In Motion said it had signed a contract to license its technology to rival Handspring Inc., including certain RIM keyboard patents.

“RIM is committed to licensing its patents and technologies to provide customers with high-quality and proven products that leverage our extensive wireless expertise,” said Jim Balsillie, chairman and co-chief executive officer at RIM, in the November press release.
