CHICO, Calif.-Zephyr Communications L.L.C., headquartered in Chico, Calif., where it holds microwave multipoint distribution system licenses, plans a commercial service launch this summer.
Zephyr is targeting college students, residential customers and small businesses, who will access the MMDS network using SOMAport portable subscriber units developed by San Francisco-based Soma Networks.
Over the longer term, Zephyr plans to expand its operation to second- and third-tier markets in the West where spectrum is available, broadband alternatives are limited and demand for high-speed Internet access is high.
