China’s telecom minister forecasts mobile growth to slow

BEIJING-China’s outgoing Minister of Information Industry Wu Jichuan announced at a national telecom conference that China would add 52 million new mobile subscribers this year, compared with 61.39 million in 2002. The country counted 206.21 million mobile subscribers at the end of last year.

He predicted total telecom revenue would grow to 456.7 billion yuan (US$55.3 billion), total investment in the telecommunications sector would be about the same as last year, around 210 billion yuan (US$25.4 billion).
