Mexico’s Iusacell launches 1x service

MEXICO CITY-Wireless operator Iusacell has launched the country’s first cdma2000 1x voice and high-speed data network for instant messaging, e-mail and Internet access, as well as mobile office capabilities and applications.

Lucent Technologies Inc. provided the equipment, software and services for the networks.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to provide our customers with the first major high-speed wireless data service in Mexico,” said Carlos Espinal, chief executive officer of Iusacell. “The new 3G cdma2000 network launched today will enable us to efficiently increase our voice capacity and introduce compelling new services to our high-value customers.”
