PARIS-France Telecom has announced a Wi-Fi initiative, saying it plans to implement the technology to complement its current businesses, including mobile GPRS/UMTS services. The company said Orange will develop a network of hot spots with landlords, Wanadoo will offer Wi-Fi home solutions, and Oleane, Transpac and Equant will offer Wi-Fi solutions for businesses.
The French company said it will focus on three areas with the technology-security, ease of use and quality of service.
France Telecom joins a growing list of European operators, including British Telecommunications plc and Deutsche Telekom AG, that are developing Wi-Fi strategies.
