Nextel Partners ARPU falls, revenue increases

KIRKLAND, Wash.-Nextel Partners Inc. said it added 93,100 customers during the fourth quarter, an increase from the 81,700 subscribers the carrier added in the last quarter of 2001. The Nextel affiliate said it added 361,900 customers for all of last year, up from the 288,500 subscribers it added in 2001.

Average revenue per user in the fourth quarter fell from $70 to $68, with customer churn remaining stable at 1.6 percent.
Total reported revenues increased from $120.8 million during the fourth quarter to $195.8 million during the final three months of 2001, with full-year revenue increasing from $377.4 million in 2001 to $670.7 million last year.

Net losses dropped from $79.1 million during the fourth quarter of 2001, a loss of 33 cents per share, to $53.9 million during the fourth quarter of 2002, a loss of 22 cents per share. For the year, net losses decreased from $291.2 million in 2001, a loss of $1.20 per share, to $286.4 million last year, a loss of $1.17 per share.

Nextel Partners also reported $2.6 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for 2002, its first full year of positive EBITDA.
