Texting survey tracks Southeast Asia’s romance level

MANILA, The Philippines-Filipinos are considered the most romantic “texters” in the Southeast Asia region, according to a recent survey commissioned by handset manufacturer Siemens. Conducted by Asia Market Intelligence, the survey covered 1,400 males and females ages 15 to 29 years old in Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

The survey cited that 58 percent of Filipinos said they say “I love you” more often through short messaging service (SMS), more commonly known as text messaging, than other Southeast Asians. The region’s overall percentage of texting “I love you” was 38 percent.

Fifty-seven percent of those Filipinos surveyed said they have had their mobile phones ringing during intimate moments with their partners. Only 9 percent of Filipinos switch off their phones when they are together with their loved ones.

Also, 85 percent of those Filipinos surveyed said they like the idea of using new technologies like multimedia messaging service (MMS) to enhance their personal communications.
