Motorola, Avis test driving service

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Motorola Inc. said it will team with rental car company Avis Rent A Car System, Inc. to test a location-based driving direction service.

For a daily fee, Avis customers at the Dallas Fort Worth airport will be able to rent a Motorola GPS-enabled iDEN i88s mobile phone and receive spoken driving directions. Users must first dial in to the Avis call center and provide their destination, then they receive the directions.

“We believe that the entire location-based services market will benefit greatly with forward thinking enterprises like Avis,” said Neal Campbell, general manager of location services for Motorola’s Personal Communications Sector. “Motorola’s VIAMOTO suite of software is designed to work with our customers goals of discovering new revenue generating services that meet the needs of their consumers.”
