Motorola, Lucent introduce products for software developers

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Motorola Inc. and Lucent Technologies Inc. issued separate announcements on their programs that help software developers in the wireless arena.

Lucent unveiled a new software development kit to enable mobile operators and software developers enrich services for mobile-phone users.

The product, known as the MiLife Intelligent Services Gateway Software Developers Kit, can create applications that feature the location of a mobile user, the kind of mobile device they are using, subscriber data contained in the user’s profile such as passwords and preferences, and billing information to handle payments for purchases of goods and services made using mobile phones.

Motorola announced a suite of programs to help developers provide applications by reducing time to market as well as costs associated with application development, certification and distribution. The offerings are provided through Motorola’s Motocoder global application developer program.

“The profit that can be made from mobile application development should be as accessible,” said Marc Naddell, director of the Motocoder program in Motorola’s personal communications sector.
