NEW ORLEANS-Texas Instruments Inc. showcased a “tri-wireless personal digital assistant” concept design at CTIA Wireless 2003.
The design integrates wireless local area network, Bluetooth and GSM/GPRS technologies to allow simultaneous phone calls, Web browsing, mobile-commerce, Bluetooth-enabled capabilities like printing and integrated DSP-accelerated multimedia applications, said the company.
Code named Wanda, for Wireless Any Network Digital Assistant, the design uses TI’s OMAP processors and other TI wireless technologies along with Microsoft Inc.’s Windows-Powered Pocket PC operating system.
“Giving consumers multiple wireless connections in a single device will open new horizons to end users, providing the communications connections to enable true mobility, increasing user connection time and energizing the PDA industry,” said Richard Kerslake, worldwide director of marketing, wireless computing, for TI’s wireless terminals business.
