BEIJING-China Mobile (Hong Kong), the listed arm of mobile carrier China Mobile Communications is to pay its first dividend since listing on the Hong Kong stock market in October 1997. The company’s earnings rose 17 percent last year to 32.74 billion yuan (US$3.96 million).
Amid fierce competition with rival China Unicom and the PHS services of fixed-line carriers, the company’s stock price fell 32.6 percent in a year. Subscriber growth remains healthy, but the monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) is declining.
