Asian operators unite in Wi-Fi alliance

SINGAPORE-Five Asian operators have announced a Wi-Fi initiative called the Wireless Broadband Alliance. The companies, Korea Telecom, China Netcom, Maxis from Malaysia, Singapore’s StarHub and Australian-based Telstra signed a memorandum of understanding that aims to drive wireless broadband services adoption.

The group said it will establish a quality-of-service brand to help operators deliver consistent services. The group will also aim to create opportunities for cooperation among the members for cross-network services and seamless roaming across mobile and Wi-Fi networks.

Combined, the operators have 8,600 available Wi-Fi locations, including 17 international airports in five countries.
