BUCHAREST, Romania-Kuwaiti GSM operator Wataniya Telecom announced this week it has joined the bid for Bahrain’s second mobile telecommunications license, while preparing for a traffic increase.
According to Andrei Torriani, executive director at Wataniya, there is an increase in call traffic due to the Iraq war, but the network is handling it well. The problems lie with other mobile networks and the international gateway, which is a monopoly under the Ministry of Communications, he said.
“Our company is well prepared for this situation-we have planned for it for months-and are even supplying the government and contractors to the military with backup communications,” said Torriani.
Wataniya Telecom was launched in December 1999 and is the second licensed GSM mobile operator in the State of Kuwait.
