TOKYO-NTT DoCoMo said it will launch a new satellite mobile handset that provides 64 kilobits per second (kbps) packet communications. Users of the satellite mobile-phone handset called “Widestar Duo” can receive signals at up to 64 kbps and send signals at up to 4.8 kbps, the firm said.
The Widestar Duo handset is about 35-percent smaller and about 15-percent lighter than the conventional handset, the firm said. The listing price is open. However DoCoMo said it might be selling at less than 200,000 yen (US$1,673) per unit at stores.
